About half of all people with schizophrenia, bipolar and related disorders suffer from a symptom that leaves then unable to understand they have a mental health condition. This is a symptom of these brain disorders, not denial! As such, how we approach and communicate with people who have this symptom, called anosognosia, makes all the difference. In this presentation Dr. Amador describes how common anosognosia is, how it impacts the person with mental illness and the family, and most importantly, how we can help the person accept treatment.
